Sunny Spain!

Woke up this morning and thought I have been transported to Ireland, the weather has taken a dreadful turn -  absolutely pouring rain but hopefully it will only last a day or 2 the plus side is it gives you a chance to catch up on all domestic 'stuff'  It is a day to book lunch in one of the cosy restaurants near by - I think today I will try  The Forge  which is on the road to Casares.

Golf

There are so many really good golf courses to choose from in this area - it is my ambition to arrive at a time in my life when I have the freedom to play a different course every week.

SAN ROQUE CLUB
San Roque Club is truely a wonderful course, well actually it has 2 courses, .Dave Thomas, designed the Old Course and Pete Dye designed the New Course.
San Roque is played in the qualifiers for the European Tour, the "School Tour" and the Apollo week each year.

Duquesa Golf Hotel
18 holes and entertaining fairways will allow you to enjoy rounds of golf reserved for players who enjoy the sun and Mediterranean breezes. Spectacular tees from which you can see the African continent and neighbouring Marbella.  Teeing off from the 17th hole will convince you that there are very few courses in which nature and design merge so beautifully. We had nothing to do with nature, and as for the design we were fortunate to have Robert Trent Jones, who blended these two elements in such a superb manner.

Manilva

The local area

Having lived in other areas of Spain, i.e. Fuengirola area, Marbella, we finally settled in the Manilva area, If you are a 'Puerto Banus Party Animal' this is not the place for you, the beauty of this area is that you get the best of everything; it hasn't lost its traditional Spanish feel, yet close to the pretty, whitewashed Manilva village is the thriving commercial centre of Las Sabinillas with its extensive facilities. Beautiful sandy beaches, golf courses, the old fishing village of El Castillo or the bustling and cosmopolitan Duquesa Port.

Even though we have lived here for the past 7 years we still regularly stumblie upon yet another great restaurant or little beach or some gem.  The promenade along Sabinillas is great for an early morning walk, then when you feel justified take a break in one of the cafes along the prom.  I love to go to the market on Friday morning, which is held on the estepona side of the prom, and then have my breakfast.  There are alot of little cafes in the side streets or sliglhtly away from the beach, these will be busy with spanish workers taking their morning break.

Manilva village is very quite and it has taken me awhile to find my way around it, even though it is very small, but there are so many little streets off streets,  there is a great sports centre and a little place where they teach dancing and Pilates, it is all very casual, you can just drop in, no need for big commitment of monthly or yearly fees, and very cheap, 5 euro for Pilates class!
There are some beautiful country walks in this area, many people drive here to walk the country side.
